44th Annual Escape From Alcatraz

The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon returns for its 44th year, maintaining its reputation as a "bucket list" race for triathletes across the globe. This legendary event pits Olympians and world champions against the raw elements of San Francisco in a harrowing 29-mile journey.
The Course:
- The Swim: Athletes leap from the San Francisco Belle into the 55-degree waters near Alcatraz Island for a 1.5-mile swim to the St. Francis Yacht Club.
- The Bike: An 18-mile ride through the Presidio Click to open side panel for more information and past Land’s End, featuring steep technical climbs and fast descents.
- The Run: An 8-mile run through Baker Beach and the infamous Sand Ladder—400 grueling stairs that push even the most elite athletes to their limits.
Spectator Experience: The Marina Green serves as the heart of the action, hosting the Fitness Festival & Expo. Spectators can enjoy:
- Live Commentary: Watch the finish line drama as athletes transition from the bay to their bikes.
- Aquathlon (Saturday): Catch the swim-run event on Saturday for a preview of the weekend’s speed.
