Parks, Views, Walks, and Fresh Air Near Nob Hill

Spring in San Francisco is one of the best times of year to be outside. The skies are clearer, the hills are green, flowers start blooming across the city, and it’s the perfect season for long walks, park afternoons, and scenic viewpoints. If you're staying at Stanford Court, you’re perfectly positioned to enjoy some of the best outdoor spots in San Francisco — many within walking distance or a short ride away.

Here’s how to spend more time outside this spring while exploring the city like a local.

1. Start Your Morning at Huntington Park (Right Across the Street!)

The easiest outdoor activity when staying on Nob Hill is also one of the most charming. Huntington Park sits directly across the street from Stanford Court and is a favorite neighborhood spot for morning walks, coffee breaks, and dog watching. Grab a coffee from the hotel’s complimentary coffee and tea service and bring it to the park in the morning. Locals walk their dogs, neighbors catch up on benches, and the views of Grace Cathedral make it one of the prettiest small parks in the city.

It’s the perfect low-effort, very San Francisco way to start your day.

2. Walk or Ride the Cable Car to the Embarcadero

One of the best outdoor walks in San Francisco is along the Embarcadero, the wide waterfront promenade that runs along the Bay. From Stanford Court you can either enjoy a straight shot down the hill until you reach The Ferry Building, you can ride the California Street cable car down the hill, or you can hop on the Muni 1-line at Clay St & Taylor St to take a faster ride toward the waterfront. Once you get there, we recommend starting at the Ferry Building Marketplacethen walking north towards Fisherman's Wharf. You'll pass:

  • Bay Views
  • Palm tree lined walkways
  • Piers and public art displays
  • Outdoor seating areas
  • Street performers and musicians
  • Joggers, cyclists and dog walkers
  • Bayside restaurants and maybe even food carts

Spring is perfect here because the weather is cool, clear, and great for long walks without getting too hot.

3. Spend an Afternoon in Golden Gate Park

If you want a bigger outdoor adventure, head west to Golden Gate Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States. In spring, this park transforms into one of the most beautiful places in the city. Some favorite areas to explore include:

  • Stow Lake and Strawberry Hill
  • The Botanical Garden
  • Cherry Blossoms and Spring Flower blooms
  • The Dutch Windmill Tulips
  • Long walking and biking paths
  • Open lawns for picnics

You can easily spend a few hours here walking, renting bikes, or just laying in the grass and enjoying the sunshine - and even more time if you check out any of the museums or exhibitions located in the park!

4. Visit the Marina Green for Bay & Bridge Views

For classic San Francisco outdoor views, including the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, head to the Marina Green or nearby Criss Field. This area has plenty of wide open green space where you'll see friends laying out on the grass, walkers and joggers getting their workouts in, children flying kites and everyone just generally enjoying the sunshine. On a sunny spring day, this is where half the city seems to be. Bring a coffee, rent bikes or just walk along the water and enjoy the view.

5. Walk through Chinatown & North Beach

Another great outdoor plan is simply walking through nearby neighborhoods. From Stanford Court, you can easily walk downhill into Chinatown, then continue into North Beach (San Francisco's "Little Italy").

Stop at Washington Square Park, grab a coffee and sit in the park while watching the neighborhood go by. Then, when you get hungry, there's plenty of homemade pasta and pizza places to choose from! Or enjoy a delicious gelato for your trek back up the hill. Spring afternoons are especially nice here - sunny, lively and full of locals.

Spring is the Perfect Time to Explore San Francisco

One of the best parts about staying at Stanford Court is how easy it is to explore San Francisco without needing a car. Cable cars, Muni lines, walkable neighborhoods, parks, and waterfront paths are all within reach. Spring in San Francisco isn’t about rushing between attractions — it’s about walking neighborhoods, sitting in parks, watching the Bay, and enjoying the city at a slower pace.

And Nob Hill is the perfect place to start. 😉
