Great Drop-in Yoga Classes for the San Francisco Traveler
Once you have a yoga routine, a missed session is something you can actually feel in your bones. Travel has a tendency to interrupt our fitness routines, but not if you’re proactive. Drop-in yoga classes are ideal for travelers because they’re flexible and show you a more local side of the city.
So, plan ahead and find your zen with yoga in San Francisco. Here are the best of drop-in classes around the city.
Bring a mat to “yoga on the labyrinth” set in this French gothic cathedral in Nob Hill. It’s an ethereal experience of hatha yoga for people of all abilities and walks of life. Guests at Stanford Court Hotel can rent out a mat to bring at this nearby yoga venue. Class is held every Tuesday from 6:15-7:30pm, though an annual holiday hiatus lasts from Dec. 5 to the new year. Arrive at 6pm to set up and make sure to dress warm – not surprisingly, cathedrals tend to get a bit chilly during the winter months. $10-12 suggested donation. 1100 California. St., San Francisco
A gothic cathedral is a memorable yoga experience, but you can’t get any more “San Francisco” than yoga in an old Victorian home. The Yoga Garden is a peaceful reprieve among the cafés and shops of NoPa and the Lower Haight, and the studio’s class pass system is perfect for travelers: one drop-in class is $25, or you can opt for a $50 tourist pass for three classes in the span of 10 days. 286 Divisadero St., San Francisco
It’s often chilly in San Francisco, so warm up with hot vinyasa flow. This second-floor yoga studio is bathed in natural light and surrounded by trees that you can see through gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows. Peak hours are roughly 6pm-9pm, so plan to arrive early for a good spot if this is your time slot. Drop in for $22 or choose the 5-class package for $90. 1892 Union St., San Francisco
