Located in a small, easy-to-miss alley in San Francisco's Chinatown, this is a must-visit when in the city. The place is a veritable institution, serving up free smells to passers-by since 1962. And celebrities flock to sample the best fortune cookies in the world here. (It was even featured on The Amazing Race.)

What makes Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory different? For one, they make their cookies from scratch and by hand. While most companies have automated the process, not here. When you walk in, you'll immediately see the fortune cookies being made in the middle of the store. And the aroma! Oh my! 

Looking for traditional fortune cookies? Check. Looking for fancy, chocolate-covered fortune cookies? They have those. Want to customize fortune cookies for parties or anniversaries or corporate functions? Of course they can do that. 

The factory churns out up to 10,000 fortune cookies per day and we highly recommend seeing them in action - and taking home a bag (or three).
