Best Off-Leash Dog Parks in San Francisco

If you’re traveling to San Francisco with a furry friend, chances are you’re looking for a place they get active and socialize.

At Stanford Court Hotel, we know that boundless energy can’t be tethered. While the picturesque Huntington Park is just down the street (perfect for morning and evening strolls), energy needs some freedom. Looking to entertain and tucker out your pup? Here are the 3 best off-leash parks in San Francisco.

Lafayette Park

Located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood not far from Nob Hill, Lafayette Park is exceptional and local dog owners love it. There’s a wide range of social groups for dogs that frequent Lafayette Park, especially during summer evenings. The dog run area is located on a steep slope with fake grass; the plus is that the area maintains cleanliness and your dog will too. The terraced park features views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge (or the fog that covers it).

Located at Gough and Washington streets, Pacific Heights. See Map.

Corona Heights Park

Corona Heights Park is a treat for both humans and dogs. The grassy, rocky hilltop offers 360-degree views of the city and makes for an excellent photo op during dawn and dusk hours. A fenced-in dog run is located at the entrance and pups are welcome to partake in the climb to the top with owners. Bring some water! It gets hot if conditions are sunny. The 5-minute hike is uphill and ends with stellar views from various rock formations. Corona Heights is a great place to hang out and enjoy the scenery with your best friend.

Located at Roosevelt and Museum ways, Corona Heights. See Map.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park’s training area for pups is one of the only fully-fenced in parks in the city. Located behind the Bison Paddocks (roughly 38th and Fulton Street), this is a good place to let your dog exert its energy and socialize. Beware, in dry months the area is similarly dry and dusty, so don’t expect your best friend to leave particularly clean. Consider a puppy spa appointment afterward. The city is currently working to improve the park for dogs and their humans, so hang tight – hopefully the grass will be greener in the coming months.

Located at Fulton and 38th streets in Golden Gate Park, Outer Richmond. See Map.
